Jiajie Yu

Barcelona, 1989

His first film experience was as an actor on a commercial for Pepsi shot in 2007. From that moment on, he knew immediately that he will spend his life e on a film set, but not in front of the cameras given his poor interpretive skills. He got a degree at Ramon Llull University in Audiovisual Communication and he did a screenwriter and direction cinematographer master at the film school Blande à Part. He is currently studying a Master’s in Photography Management in Digital Cinema at EFTI thanks to a scholarship obtained from more than 380 participants.

His was awarded in two consecutive occasions for Thailand International Film Destination Festival with his shortfilms A Lonely Trip (2014) and Blissful City (2015). Both projects are part of Amazing Thailand Film Challenge, a contest where directors from different parts of the world took on the challenge of filming and delivering the project in just 5 days and with a team of 2 people.

His last shortfilm Aliens (2016) was filmed in Benidorm and it is currently being distributed by national and international festivals. Aliens has been selected for more than 20 festivals, including the Malaga Festival, the Sant Joan d’Alacant Film Festival or the Santiago de Compostela International Film Festival – Curtocircuito, all of them qualifiers for the Goya Awards.

Jiajie stands out for his stylized and elegant atmospheres, with an esthetic and a very careful sound design. His projects usually have an unconventional narrative, seeking to generate sensations, creating immersive and hypnotic scenes. he enjoys telling heartfelt and moving stories with a subtle oriental essence.

Since he moved to Madrid, his mom told him that he has lost weight, now that he is at Harry´s he feels like he is home again.
